Three points was the aim before last nights game, and three points is what we got after a slender 1-0 victory over a dogged Falkirk side, at the Falkirk Stadium, thanks to a first half Benjamin Nygren goal. Although, admittedly we were rather fortunate that the Bairns didn’t have their shooting boots on or it could have been a completely different outcome on the night, and we couldn’t have had any complaints.

As good as we looked on Saturday against Dundee United, when we were well drilled and confident, and looked threatening in attack as well as secure in defence, it was the total opposite last night as we looked all over the place at times, and can consider ourselves fortunate to head back down the road with all three points.
Of course there are concerns over the state of the side at this moment in time, and it’s glaringly obvious that we require new additions, but all in all we can be happy under the circumstances, and applaud the grit and determination shown by the players as they shown that they won’t give up their title without a fight.

Tonight was a tricky one, don’t be under any illusions that it should have been a canter. A midweek game away from home on a plastic pitch in the rain, against a dogged and determined well organised in form Falkirk side is a game that had dropped points written all over it.
Indeed, had we still had the misfortune to have been under the leadership of Wilfried Nancy, then I can confidently say we would been on the end of yet another defeat.

But this Celtic side under Martin O’Neill are made of strong stuff, and we didn’t for one second think of anything other than victory. Benjamin Nygren’s goal, and Kasper Schmeichel’s terrific stop towards the end could well prove vital moments come May.
It was far from a terrific performance, but the players earned a vital three points because they wanted it, and that’s an encouraging sign.
