Gabriel Gudmundsson says Sweden will need to show courage when they face Slovenia in Friday’s World Cup qualifier.

The Leeds full-back believes the squad are well prepared after a strong week in training.

“It’s been a good week, we’ve had good energy in training and everyone is excited and focused. We’ve been working on the details that will be important for Friday’s match.”

Sweden travel to Ljubljana for their opening 2026 World Cup qualifier, and Gudmundsson is clear about the team’s approach.

“It’s important that we’re smart in our game, especially when playing away from home,” he added. “We need to take our chances when they come, but at the same time keep playing with the courage and confidence that we’ve shown.”

The 26-year-old came off as a precaution in the second half of Leeds’ recent match against Newcastle after taking a knock, but moved quickly to ease any concerns over his fitness.

“It’s good. No problem. I’m completely ready,” Gudmundsson said. “I got hit early and tried to fight my way through, but it got tough towards the end. I have 90 minutes in me if necessary.”

Gudmundsson also paid tribute to Sweden’s travelling fans: “Seeing and hearing them gives us extra energy, which we will need throughout the qualifiers.”
