Haaland becomes quickest to 50 Champions League goals | OneFootball

Erling Haaland has reached 50 Champions League goals quicker than any other player in history.

The Norwegian’s strike second-half against Napoli on Thursday night took him to a half century of strikes in Europe’s elite competition, needing just 49 games to do so.

He has far eclipsed the previous record, which saw Ruud van Nistelrooy reach the landmark in 62 matches.

It also moves him into the top 10 in terms of leading scorers in the history of the European Cup or Champions League, surpassing Alfredo Di Stefano on 49.

Our No.9 is now level with Thierry Henry, who needed 112 games to score 50 times in continental competition.

His scoring rate of more than one per game is significantly better than anyone else in the top 50 scorers in European Cup history.

27 of his goals in the Champions League have come with City, while he netted 15 times for Borussia Dortmund and on eight occasions for Red Bull Salzburg before moving to the Etihad.

Our triumphant run in 2022/23 was Haaland’s best scoring season in the competition so far, scoring 12 goals in 11 appearances.

Haaland has collected an incredible swathe of records since moving to Manchester in the summer of 2022, including Premier League Golden Boots in both of his full campaigns to date.

The first of those comprised of 36 strikes in total, which is a record for number of goals in a single Premier League season.

Needing just 105 games to reach 100 goals in total for City meant he equalled Cristiano Ronaldo’s record in terms of speed to the three-figure mark for one club.
