Hamburg will be without Albert Sambi Lokonga for the foreseeable future after the Bundesliga returnees confirmed that the Belgian midfielder sustained a torn ligament in his ankle during their clash against Heidenheim after colliding with Patrick Mainka.

The 26-year-old emerged for the second half but shortly after had to be replaced after being unable to continue. As a result of an MRI scan on Monday, HSV has since confirmed that Sambi Lokonga suffered ligament damage but ‘will only miss a few weeks of football’, per the club’s press release.

Albert Samba Lokonga has excelled in the Bundesliga

Since his €300k arrival from Arsenal in September 2025, Sambi Lokonga has featured in 16 Bundesliga games from a possible 17, returning three goals while making a claim for Bundesliga transfer of the season after excelling in central midfield.

The former-Arsenal man has developed an excellent partnership alongside Nicolai Remberg in HSV’s midfield, helping Merlin Polzin’s side into 11th after a 2-2 draw against Bayern Munich and a first away win of the season, beating Heidenheim 2-0 at the weekend.
