Hansi Flick approves Barcelona renewal with additional year included | OneFootball

Barcelona are edging closer to securing long-term continuity under Hansi Flick, with fresh reports indicating that the German coach has already approved the structure of a new deal. 

According to Mundo Deportivo, the Barcelona manager has given the green light to extend his stay.

Flick’s current contract runs until 2027, but Barcelona have been keen to move early and avoid any uncertainty surrounding their managerial position. 

The club’s hierarchy, led by president Joan Laporta, initially pushed for a longer extension that would have tied the German down until 2029. 

However, Flick preferred a more balanced approach, opting for a shorter commitment that still provides stability without overextending into the long term.

Option for another year

The agreement now in place reflects that compromise, as the new deal is expected to run until 2028, with an optional additional year. 

This extra year will only come into effect if both Flick and Barcelona are satisfied with the project’s progress by the end of the 2027–28 season.

It is a structure that gives both sides flexibility while maintaining continuity, something that has become increasingly important for Barcelona in recent seasons.

There are still minor details to be finalised, and those discussions are expected to take place soon. 

Flick’s agent, Pini Zahavi, is set to arrive in Barcelona next week to iron out the remaining aspects of the agreement. 

His visit will also include conversations regarding the future of Robert Lewandowski, making it a significant moment for multiple key decisions at the club.

When will Barcelona announce the renewal?

As per the outlet, the official announcement will be made public once the La Liga title is mathematically secured. 

That could happen as early as this weekend, depending on results, or after the upcoming Clasico at the Spotify Camp Nou.

If everything goes as expected, Flick will reach that milestone having already delivered five trophies in his first two seasons, a return that has justified the club’s trust in his leadership.
