It was a roller coaster of a game as FC Barcelona took on Inter Milan in the first leg of the UEFA Champions League semi-finals. Both sides kept dealing blows to one another, and the match ultimately ended with a 3-3 draw.
Hansi Flick was naturally not very happy with so many goals conceded at home but was still happy at the fighting spirit shown by his team.
These mixed feelings were quite clear in his media talk and the press conference that he held after the end of the game, which was covered by Mundo Deportivo. The main highlights of his media talk and presser are reproduced below:
The German coach admitted that his side did not start the game in a very good manner:
“We didn’t start well, we conceded two goals, but then we came back and played very well in the second half. It was great for the fans — it’s the first of two matches, and in Milan we have to win. It’s a final before the final.”
Hansi Flick also highlighted one of the strengths of Inter Milan that helped them get the goals last night:
“We’re talking about a Champions League semifinal, with great teams — they have experience, they had an advantage on set pieces, they played very well and made the most of it… We have to take note. They have very tall and dangerous players on set pieces, but I’m grateful for how my players performed and reacted.”
The Barcelona coach was particularly full of praise for Lamine Yamal and recounted his impact on the game:
“He showed it today, he opened the way for us — that 1-2 was very important. We have to keep fighting until the end… In the big games, you’ve seen the quality of this player, and today he did it again. He’s a special player, and I’m glad that the player who comes around every 50 years plays for Barça.”

The German tactician also highlighted what the two teams would need to do in the second leg of the tie:
“They are different teams, but I also think Inter can’t just defend — they have to score. It’s a semifinal, and that’s why we’re playing among the four best teams in Europe. For us, it’s important to play the same way, believing in what we know how to do, and I hope that 90 minutes will be enough to reach the final.”
Lastly, when asked about Kounde’s injury, the Blaugrana manager asked the reporters to wait till tomorrow:
“We have to wait until tomorrow.”
Naturally, Hansi Flick will be hoping to get a player as important as Jules Kounde back as soon as possible. But from the looks of it, he does not look likely to be able to return in time for the upcoming second leg against Inter Milan or the La Liga El Clásico against Real Madrid.
