Hansi Flick is set to have the medical go-ahead to use Gavi for the first time since August when Barcelona host Sevilla this weekend, though whether he plays remains the coach’s decision.

Mundo Deportivo reports that club medics now consider the 21-year-old fit enough for a brief cameo as he builds back fitness, and that he was on the bench at Newcastle United on Tuesday without permission to feature. Meanwhile, Marca notes Barcelona have gone nine Champions League matches this season without a clean sheet, their last came in April 2025, a 4-0 win over Borussia Dortmund.

Gavi injured his meniscus, followed five weeks of conservative treatment, then underwent surgery after no improvement, which sidelined him for a further five months. He has trained with the group in recent weeks.

Flick has yet to decide whether to introduce him, but the choice will likely rest with him. With Camp Nou capacity increased and the atmosphere improved, staff have discussed lifting Gavi’s morale with a cautious return if the game state allows.

Sevilla at home could mark his comeback, with Rayo Vallecano visiting a week later offering another window for minutes. The subsequent international break would then let him work on fitness without match pressure.

If Flick waits until after the break, Barcelona face demanding games against Atletico Madrid at the Metropolitano and Espanyol in the Catalan derby. Should he miss those too, his return could be more than a month away, aside from potential Champions League fixtures.
