FC Barcelona could soon take an important step toward securing Hansi Flick’s future. With the German already guiding the team through a strong season, the next move now seems set to happen off the pitch, where talks over a new contract are expected to begin.
According to Mundo Deportivo, Flick’s agent Pini Zahavi plans to travel to Barcelona in roughly two weeks to negotiate the coach’s renewal. The report says the meeting is expected to take place around the Champions League quarter-final first leg against Atletico Madrid at Spotify Camp Nou on Wednesday, April 8.
That is a significant sign from a Barcelona perspective. It suggests the club are moving beyond public optimism and into the stage where the real details of a new deal need to be worked through. Joan Laporta had already said recently that Flick’s continuity beyond June 2027 was practically done.
The idea, though, still appears very clear on both sides. Flick wants to continue at Barca and the club want to keep him, even if there are still some points to resolve before anything becomes official. The German manager has always never signed long deal throughout his career.
From a Barca point of view, Flick has consistently looked like a coach focused first on the team and only later on himself. He is expected to be given a one-year extension this time around, which would tie him down till 2028.
What the German manager has done with this squad is no joke. In all fairness, he is overperforming with the resources at his disposal. Any other manager may have struggled to get all this done with almost no backing in the transfer market.
For as long as Flick wants to be at Barcelona, the club should keep him. It’s a no-brainer decision, and let’s wait and see how things play out on this front in the coming weeks and months.
