Walter Zenga, a legendary Inter goalkeeper and a true symbol of the Nerazzurri colours, turns 66 today. Known as “Spider-Man”, he always embodied what it means to be Inter, giving fans unforgettable moments across twelve seasons between the posts. His bond with the Nerazzurri family made him an icon, and some of his declarations of love for Inter have stayed with supporters just as much as his spectacular saves.
Walter Zenga has always been Inter through and through. He came through the ranks at the Club as a goalkeeper, progressing through the youth system from 1971 to 1978 before finally breaking into the first team in 1982, following a few seasons gaining experience elsewhere. From that moment on, Walter guarded the Nerazzurri goal for twelve years, combining talent, determination and charisma to establish himself as one of the finest goalkeepers of his generation. For three consecutive seasons (1989, 1990 and 1991), Zenga was named the world’s best goalkeeper by the International Federation of Football History & Statistics – a prestigious honour that cemented his status as a true legend. The former Nerazzurri keeper was also included in the Ballon d'Or rankings in 1988 and 1990, finishing 17th and 12th respectively. Zenga wrote his name into Inter history by winning four trophies: the record-breaking Scudetto, the Supercoppa Italiana and two UEFA Cups. His 473 appearances in Nerazzurri colours earned him a place in the Club’s Hall of Fame in 2018 – the first goalkeeper to receive the honour, ahead of Francesco Toldo, Julio Cesar and Gianluca Pagliuca. A leader on the pitch, an idol and a symbol of the Nerazzurri DNA: happy birthday to Walter Zenga from FC Internazionale Milano and all the fans!
