Real Madrid will start their Champions League quarter-final tie with Bayern Munich as underdogs, but there is hope that they can progress to the last four at the expense of the Bundesliga giants. Their chances would certainly increase if Harry Kane were not to be involved in one of the matches, which is starting to look increasingly likely at this stage.

Kane missed England’s friendly defeat to Japan earlier this week with a minor injury, and while the expectation has been that it is not serious, doubts continue to surround his availability for next week’s first leg at the Bernabeu. Bayern are yet to know whether he can travel to Madrid, but in the meantime, he has been ruled out of their weekend match against Freiburg, as per Sky Germany (via Marca).

Bayern are taking no risks with Kane, which is why they have decided that he will not be involved prior to the Real Madrid match. They are fully focused on ensuring that he can start at the Bernabeu, and if he does, their chances of taking an advantage back to the Allianz Arena for the return leg would be greatly increased.

Stopping Kane is crucial for Real Madrid

It has been a remarkable season for Kane, who has 48 goals in 40 club appearances across all competitions. His partnership with Michael Olise and Luis Diaz has caused so much damage for many teams, and Real Madrid could be the same if he is passed fit for next week’s showdown clash at the Bernabeu.

If he does play, stopping Kane will be high among Real Madrid’s priorities for the match. And it is something they can certainly do – after all, they managed to keep Erling Haaland at bay during their 3-0 home victory over Manchester City in the previous round of the Champions League.
