Harry Kane described the feeling of pride in Bayern Munich ranks after keeping their Champions League hopes alive in a nine-goal semi-final thriller against holders Paris St Germain.

Bayern must overcome a one-goal deficit in Bavaria next Wednesday after losing an incredible first leg at the Parc des Princes 5-4.

The German champions were staring down the barrel at 5-2 down after 58 minutes until goals from Dayot Upamecano and Luis Diaz gave them real hope of completing an extraordinary comeback.

“I think you saw two high-level teams out there,” Kane told Amazon Prime. “Especially in the attacking play, in the transition, the speed, the intensity, in the one-v-one battles. Two of the top teams going toe to toe.

“We had moments where we could have killed the game earlier on. We take a lot of pride in the fact that we got back to 5-4 because away from home, and being 5-2 down, could be a really tough place to be.

“But we fought and we clawed and we’re back in the tie.”

Kane fired Bayern ahead with a confident 17th-minute penalty, his 54th goal of an incredible season for the England captain.

PSG then led 2-1 and 3-2 as Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, Joao Neves and Ousmane Dembele, with the game’s second penalty, struck, while Michael Olise was on target for Bayern with a 20-yard thunderbolt.

Clinical second-half finishes from Kvaratskhelia and Dembele put PSG in command, but Bayern scored twice in three minutes midway through the half to throw the tie back into the melting pot.

Kane said: “As the game went on, we got better and better. They started to tire, so we’ll go to the Allianz Arena and try and bring the same intensity.

“There was a lot of moments out there and it’s probably going to be the same next week.

“So us being at home with the crowd behind us at the Allianz Arena, we hope that can push us over the line.”

Two-goal Dembele was named man of the match and the France striker told Canal+ Foot: “It was a match between two great teams who attack, who don’t hesitate.

“We’re happy with the result, even though at 5-2 we stopped playing a bit towards the end.

“We’re not going to change our philosophy. We’re going to attack, and they’re going to attack too. So I think it’s going to be a great second match.”

Former England captain Wayne Rooney questioned PSG’s approach after establishing a three-cushion, believing the European champions should have placed a greater emphasis on defence at that point.

Rooney told Amazon Prime: “It was a crazy and chaotic game. Both teams have got so much quality at the top end of the pitch that they probably forget to defend a little bit.

“Luis Enrique is a top coach so when they get the advantage of 5-2, I think he should have said ‘let’s shut up shop and get behind the ball’.

“But they went for more goals and Vincent Kompany has got a very attack-minded (Bayern) team.

“We saw some immature defending, which is crazy.”
