INEOS are desperate to trim Manchester United’s bloated wage bill come the summer as they prepare to make space for new incomings.

The club’s highest earner, Casemiro, has already announced he will be leaving upon the expiration of his current contract, while fellow high earner Jadon Sancho is also likely to follow suit.

Harry Maguire is also in the same boat, but unlike the aforementioned duo, he wants to stay at Old Trafford.

The only problem? He has to agree to take a massive pay cut. Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah are trying to tempt him to leave by offering him a wage rise and a mega signing-on fee.

Maguire is a wanted man

And now, according to The Sun, Napoli are also prepared to offer him an exit route out of Manchester, on the insistence of Scott McTominay.

The former United midfielder has proven to be a revelation since departing the Theatre of Dreams and has become a firm fan favourite.

McTominay wants the England international to experience the same, and Harry Maguire now as a tough choice.

There was interest from other Italian clubs as well as a couple of English sides in January, but Michael Carrick put his foot down and blocked all exits.

McTominay eyeing a reunion

But with INEOS yet to submit a contract offer, time is running out if they are to keep the former captain at the club.

“United turned down an approach from AC Milan in January and it is understood that Maguire’s former team-mate Scott McTominay is pushing for Napoli to make a move if he is available in the summer.

“They were close during their five years together and socialised on pre-season tours.”

The United squad all feel it would be a mistake to let the Englishman leave, considering his on-field ability and leadership off it. The ball is now in INEOS’ court.
