Harry Redknapp concerned there could be a ‘haunting’ at St James’ Park…

Harry Redknapp talking to BetVictor ahead of Newcastle United hosting Brighton:

“It feels like Newcastle haven’t really got going this season but they’re only two points off the top four.

“They’re without a win in their last three and have really missed Alexander Isak, as any side would.

“I never know what to expect from Brighton.

“They were as good in that second half against Spurs as they were bad in the first, it was unbelievable!

“I’ve said it a lot though, the options that they have in this squad is fantastic, there’s plenty of players on the bench capable of turning a game.

“This should be a really good game.

“Brighton will create a lot but are shaky at the back, I’m going for 2-2.

“One to watch – Brighton signed Yankuba Minteh in the summer from Newcastle and he has shown glimpses of real quality. He’ll want to come back to haunt his old side.”

I thought for there to be a haunting, the ‘person’ in question had to have actually at one time been at the place in question!

It is a strange situation regarding Yankuba Minteh but I think it has been massively overplayed. He may well turn out to be a good player BUT at many other clubs, especially Chelsea this situation has happened countless times, signing numerous players, loaning them out, rarely playing – if ever – for Chelsea, then sold on at a serious profit.

I am sure Newcastle United would rather have kept both Minteh and Anderson this summer, however, due to hundreds of millions spent the previous two and a half years and very little recouped in sales, it was a case of selling squad players rather than the likes of Bruno, Gordon or Isak., to stay within PSR.

As for Saturday’s match overall…

Eddie Howe has confirmed on Friday morning that Alexander Isak is now fully fit again and available to play against Brighton. A massive boost. One of the very best strikers in the Premier League.

Just as Newcastle United have one of the very best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

So many ‘experts’ predicting Newcastle United to concede ‘goals’ this weekend, rather than one or less, against Brighton.

In the 28 months he has been at NUFC, these are ALL of the Premier League games at St James’ Park that Nick Pope has started, where he has conceded more than one goal in a match:

21 August 2022 – Newcastle 3 Man City 3

18 February 2022 – Newcastle 0 Liverpool 2

7 May 2023 – Newcastle 0 Arsenal 2

27 August 2023 – Newcastle 1 Liverpool 2

Yes, only four times in 28 months, four times in 30 Premier League matches.

Only the three best teams of the last couple of years in the Premier League have managed to score two or more goals against Nick Pope.

I would be confident that if Newcastle United can get two or more goals tomorrow, then it should be three points for Eddie Howe’s side.
