Benfica have closed the door on signing Harry Wilson and are already pursuing alternatives as they race to strengthen Marco Silva’s squad before pre-season begins on 25 June.

According to Glorioso 1904, Rui Costa and Mário Branco have intensified market contacts to deliver early reinforcements and give Silva a stable base at Seixal from the outset.

The top priority remains the centre of defence. Benfica plan to recruit two centre-backs with distinct profiles, one left-footed and another capable of operating on either side regardless of his stronger foot.

Attention is also on the flanks. With Wilson off the table, the target profile mirrors the Wales international, a winger who can beat his man, create chances and lift the team’s attacking output.

The board led by Rui Costa will avoid players involved in the World Cup, preferring those available immediately. In parallel, Silva and the hierarchy are finalising pre-season friendlies ahead of an early start on 23 July in the Europa League second qualifying round.
