Real Betis boss Manuel Pellegrini has spoken about Enzo Maresca ahead of the Conference League final and believes the Italian will have a great career.

Chelsea are preparing for two huge games to end their season, starting with a trip to Nottingham Forest, before taking on Betis in the Conference League final on Wednesday.

The Blues must beat Nottingham Forest to guarantee their return to the Champions League, whilst a win against Betis would see them lift their first silverware under the new ownership.

Pellegrini backs Maresca to have great career

Betis will have 48 hours longer to prepare for the showpiece event in Poland after they played their final La Liga game of the season on Friday night.

Maresca has voiced his unhappiness at this, but there’s nothing the Blues can and they’ll just have to deal with it.

The 45-year-old knows Betis boss Pellegrini very well and has described him as his “professional dad” having played under him and then serving as his assistant coach at West Ham.

Maresca is under pressure at Chelsea, but Pellegrini has backed him to have a great career as a manager and believe’s he’s doing a good job.

“My words about Enzo are only positive,” he said as quoted by Marca.

“I was fortunate to manage him as a player in the final years of his career. Later he worked with me at West Ham.

“He is a manager who is going to have a great career, in fact he is already having one. He has done important things, getting promoted at Leicester and at Chelsea he shows his ability.

“He always has the intention of studying, of learning, he is a manager with a great future and with a present in which he is demonstrating his ability.”

Chelsea not planning to make managerial change

Maresca is under pressure to deliver Champions League football and silverware, but it’s understood his job is safe regardless of how the season ends.
