Harry Redknapp has been talking about Newcastle United.
The former Bournemouth boss discussing Eddie Howe and his team now seven weeks into the new season.
Newcastle United playing Nottingham Forest.
A 2pm kick-off on Sunday afternoon at St James’ Park
Newcastle United set to face Forest after very different midweeks in Europe. A brilliant 4-0 away victory for United in the Champions League, whilst Ange Postecoglou’s side lost 3-2 at home in the Europa League.
“Newcastle keep being on the receiving end of some heartbreaking losses.
“That will be tough for the squad to take but Eddie will take the positives from some of these performances and I’m sure the points will come.
“As for Forest, it’s not been the greatest start for Ange.
“It just feels like they’re playing every other night, it’s not the most ideal way to start at a new club. The longer the winless run goes in the league, the more the pressure will build on him.
“I’m picking the home side, 2-1 to Newcastle.
“One to watch- It has to be Elanga! Newcastle paid a lot for him from Forest but he’s shown glimpses of his blistering pace and threat, something they’ll know all about!”
“Prediction: Newcastle 2 Nottingham Forest 1”
Yes, as Harry Redknapp says, those three home defeats to Liverpool, Barcelona and Arsenal, heartbreaking for sure. The late late ones especially so against the scousers and cockneys.
It hasn’t been all doom and gloom though and in the other five of his eight starts this season, Nick Pope has kept five clean sheets. The Premier League matches against Wolves, Villa, Bournemouth and Leeds, plus the Champions League game against Union S-G. Aaron Ramsdale conceded one goal in the 4-1 victory over Bradford.
It is over six months and 18 matches (all competitions) since Forest kept a clean sheet, so if Nick Pope picks up his sixth clean sheet of the season on Sunday, Newcastle United will surely be following up their Champions League win with another victory.
With 16 goals conceded in their last seven matches, Nottingham Forest also looking vulnerable there.
