Henrik Larsson says he was surprised and honoured to learn Palmeiras midfielder Larson carries his name, after the story reached the Swedish great.
"I did not know that, so it is a surprise to me. It is a nice feeling. And of course I am honoured," he told Expressen.
"It is not the first time I have heard of someone named after me, especially in Scotland, but this is the first time I have heard of a footballer named after me."
Larson was named in tribute by his father, a Barcelona fan who also called the midfielder's brother Thierry. In Brazil's 2022 Census, 146 people are registered as "Larson", with 29 as "Larsson".
Larsson offered advice to the academy graduate: "Keep doing what took you to where you are now, and do not forget to enjoy yourself along the way. Because, in my opinion, you have the best job you can have."
Larson grew up watching the Swede's videos because of his father, though his favourite from Sweden now is Alexander Isak, Liverpool's centre-forward. He joined Palmeiras last year on loan from Goiás for the under-20s, caught Abel Ferreira's eye and stepped up to the first team. On Tuesday the club exercised their option to buy and signed him until the end of 2030.
