It brings his second stint to a close, two weeks after the first signs of a split surfaced. Saudi Arabia are in Group H with Cape Verde, Spain and Uruguay for the tournament from 11 June to 19 July.

Renard, 57, previously led Saudi Arabia from 2019 to 2023, taking them to Qatar 2022, where they beat eventual champions Argentina 2-1 in their opening match.

He resigned afterwards to take charge of France’s women’s team ahead of the Paris 2024 Olympics, then returned in October 2024 and guided qualification for the North American World Cup.
