Birmingham City earned a 4-0 win over Cambridge United on Tuesday night
Chris Davies has singled out new Birmingham City signing Kieran Dowell after he scored his first goal for the club on Tuesday night.
The 27-year-old made the temporary switch from Rangers during the January transfer window, and has already cemented his place as a key part of the team.
Dowell bagged his first goal for the Blues on Tuesday evening in the side’s 4-0 hammering of Cambridge United.
The victory extended Birmingham’s lead at the top of the League One table, with the club setting their sights on a return to the Championship at the first time of asking.
Davies has praised Dowell’s impact at Birmingham so far, highlighting his impressive physicality.
He believes the player’s versatility is a key asset, and is hopeful that there is even more to come from him after a positive start at St. Andrew’s.
“I’m really pleased and really impressed physically,” said Davies, via Birmingham Live.
“He’s not played a lot of football at Rangers but he covers some distance.
“Even his goal, he could have easily stayed back rather than follow the attack and sprinting into the box.
“He took his goal well. He’s got real legs.
“I’ve used him in four different positions already, he is tactically really astute, switched on, a good character, I don’t think he could have wished for a better start.”
Birmingham were eliminated from the FA Cup last weekend with a 3-2 defeat at home to Newcastle United.
However, Davies’ side have otherwise been in fine form in recent weeks, with the win over Cambridge extending their run to three victories in a row.
The League One leaders are unbeaten in their last 14 league games, sitting seven points clear of second place Wycombe Wanderers.
Next up for Birmingham is a home clash against Charlton Athletic on 15 February.
Dowell had a difficult time at Rangers, making just 24 appearances across a season-and-a-half, including only four starts.
However, he has hit the ground running at Birmingham and supporters will be pleased with the impact he’s already had.
His arrival this January will be viewed as a potential trial run for a possible summer move given Birmingham are already well clear in the promotion battle now anyway.
But if he can perform well like this for the rest of the season, then a permanent deal at the end of the campaign could be a smart next step for all parties.
