After a frustrating run of results, the 2-0 win over Fulham offered some relief, but it also created a new dilemma ahead of Paris Saint-Germain’s visit to Anfield.

Ngumoha emergence gives Slot major decision

Writing for BBC Sport, Phil McNulty captured just how impactful the teenager’s display was and the questions it now raises.

He wrote: “The strains of Duran Duran’s 80s hit ‘Rio’ swept around Anfield after the pressure and scrutiny that has been closing in on Arne Slot and Liverpool was relieved – for now – by victory against Fulham.

“It was played in celebration of the brilliance of Rio Ngumoha.

“He was born 26 years after the song was released – but on this day it was a timely soundtrack of celebration after the 17-year-old delivered an electrifying performance.

“Ngumoha not only answered their call for inspiration in these troubled times with a goal and a starring role in a win which kept Liverpool fifth in the Premier League table, he also gave his head coach a dilemma.”

That dilemma is simple but significant, whether we stick with experience or back a 17-year-old to help overturn a deficit against one of Europe’s strongest sides.

Risk vs reward ahead of PSG showdown

The BBC’s chief football writer laid out both sides of the argument, noting that “including Ngumoha would be a high-risk strategy” but also asking the key question: “what has Slot got to lose?”

That sentiment mirrors what many of us are thinking after watching the youngster terrorise Fulham, with his directness and confidence offering something we’ve lacked in recent weeks.

Former striker John Aldridge certainly saw enough, posting: “Rio should have played the 94 mins, he’s young enough and certainly good enough! MOM”

Meanwhile, Danny Murphy has already pointed out that “99.9% of Liverpool fans want to see him Tuesday night… he can make things happen,” while Alan Shearer has gone even further by urging Slot to start him.

Ultimately, the decision will define not just Tuesday night but potentially the trajectory of our season, because if Ngumoha delivers again, he won’t just be the future, he’ll be the present.
