Cole Campbell will return to Borussia Dortmund after TSG Hoffenheim decided against exercising their option to sign him permanently.
The United States attacker suffered a serious ankle injury a week after arriving in January, and spent time with the second team to regain fitness. Kicker reports that Hoffenheim deemed a fee of seven million euros plus bonuses too high and will not pursue a permanent deal.

The United States U21 international remains under contract at Dortmund until 2028. With interest from other clubs, Dortmund are not expected to lower their price for Hoffenheim.
The report suggested the most likely outcome is a permanent departure from Dortmund this summer.
Hoffenheim are expected to recruit in attack, and could accept a sizeable bid for Bazoumana Touré.
