Rasmus Hojlund reveals how Antonio Conte’s Napoli staff helped him ‘work on my movement in the box’ for today’s two decisive goals to beat Juventus. ‘It worked, so I’m happy.’

The Dane was the hero at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, as he hadn’t scored at all for two months, but broke that drought in style with a decisive brace.

He netted in the first and second half to defeat Juventus 2-1, around a temporary Kenan Yildiz equaliser.

“Sometimes as a striker you don’t score and I try to help the team in different sorts of ways. I know how important it is for the manager to hold up the ball, to put the game a little bit higher, also work hard on the pressing and keep the team compact,” Hojlund told DAZN Italia.

“I scored two goals tonight, but it’s all down to my teammates, the manager and his staff.”

When celebrating the first goal, he thanked David Neres for the cross, but also gestured something to Antonio Conte’s staff on the bench, so was it something they had prepared in training?

“Gianluca and the staff talked a lot about my movement in the box. I’ve been going a lot to the back post, but they said there’s space in the front. I attacked the front more and it worked, so I’m happy.”

Hojlund is on loan from Manchester United with an option to buy that can become an obligation if certain conditions are met, but he seems to have his heart set on staying at the Stadio Maradona.

“Next season, I’ll give my interviews in Italian,” he told the reporter.

Napoli are going through an injury crisis that has left them with hardly any midfielders, but that ultimately worked in their favour because Antonio Conte revamped the tactics to a 3-4-2-1 with David Neres and Noa Lang in support of Hojlund.

Napoli have beaten Juventus in their last seven Serie A meetings in this stadium.

“It is certainly pleasing, we had another really good intense performance tonight with a high tempo, playing open football,” added captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo.

“These are our characteristics, we’re happy, and I am pleased for Rasmus. He scored twice today, but he always helps us out every game. In difficult moments, we gave a strong response, that’s the sign of a great team spirit.”
