The Los Angeles Galaxy faced a trio of Mexican La Liga teams over the course of two weeks during Phase One of the 2025 Leagues Cup. The defending MLS Cup champions made quick work of two of those three opponents.
Club Tijuana and Santos Laguna were blowout wins as Cruz Azul bested the LA Galaxy in penalty kicks, 8-7, following a 1-1 at the end of regulation.
The LA Galaxy host another team from La Liga in the Knockout Round of the Leagues Cup. On Wednesday night, they will host Pachuca at Dignity Health Sports Park.
All four teams of those teams competed on Saturday. Cruz Azul took the field against Santos Laguna as Pachuca played Club Tijuana.
Here are the results of those games and what it means for Wednesday's Leagues Cup match.

The Los Angeles Galaxy don't need to worry about either these teams in Leagues Cup anymore. Both have been eliminated from group play.
What the Cruz Azul win over Club Tijuana tells fans is that the LA Galaxy barely lost to the better team of Saturday's match a Estadio Olimpico Universitario. Carlos Rodriguez not only scored the first goal of the match between Azul and the LA Galaxy, but he did so again this weekend against Santos Laguna.
It took Rodriguez just 21 minutes to give his team the early 1-0 lead against the Los Angeles Galaxy. He found the back of the net even quicker against Santos. His teammates, Ignacio Rivero and Gabriel Fernandez, also recorded goals against their opponent on Saturday.
For the LA Galaxy to take a now 3-2 team from Liga MX to penalty kicks in Phase One shows how competitive the six-time MLS Cup winners truly can be.

In another match featuring Leagues Cup opponents of the LA Galaxy, this game was one-sided. Club Tijuana got the better of Pachuca, 2-0.
With first-half goals from Gilberto Mora and Kevin Castaneda, that is all Tijuana needed to beat the LA Galaxy's next opponent. Prior to Saturday's game, Pachuca was undefeated (4-0-0).
The Los Angeles Galaxy have done better in the Leagues Cup play this year than they did last year. However, their mission is not done yet.
Any team is beatable on any given night. Just ask Real Salt Lake, the Vancouver Whitecaps and D.C. United. Those are the only three teams in MLS to lose to the Los Angeles Galaxy this year.
During Phase One of the 2025 Leagues Cup, the LA Galaxy was one regulation goal away against Cruz Azul from matching their MLS regular season total wins alone. If the LA Galaxy are to advance in this year's Leagues Cup Tournament, they will have to do what Club Tijuana did on Saturday and upset Pachuca.
Kickoff is later than normal on Wednesday night at 8:45 p.m (PT) and 11:45 p.m. (ET). The Sounders, Inter Miami and Orlando City SC are also all in action in the quarterfinals of the Leagues Cup on Wednesday. The winner of the LA Galaxy and Pachuca will do battle against the winner of Seattle and Puebla next week.
