Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca is set to shuffle his pack once again when Wolverhampton Wanderers arrive at Stamford Bridge on Saturday night.
The Blues are gearing up to host the West Midlands club on the back of a disappointing 2-2 draw against a spirited Qarabag side in the Champions League.
That result halted Chelsea’s winning streak prematurely at two games. But on the bright side, it also extended their unbeaten run to three games across all competitions.
Chelsea have won six of their last eight games (D1, L1) – a run that includes a chaotic 4-3 win against Saturday’s visitors in the fourth round of the EFL Cup.
With both sides set to renew acquaintances, Chelsea will be wary of the threat Wolves pose from set-pieces, which was the architect of a dramatic finale at Molineux Stadium last time out.
The Blues will be keen to secure all three points to bolster their chances of going into the international break in the top four.
However, it will be easier said than done, especially with Maresca dealing with a plethora of injury woes.
Maresca is expected to make up to seven changes from the side that drew Qarabag in the Champions League on Wednesday night. Robert Sanchez will likely retain his place in goal.
Maresca has admitted that Reece James is strong enough to play three times in a week, but the Chelsea skipper could be handed a breather after playing 90 minutes in the Champions League.
Malo Gusto will likely replace James, lining up alongside Wesley Fofana, Trevoh Chalobah, and Marc Cucurella in defence.
Romeo Lavia’s setback in midweek denied Moises Caicedo a much-needed rest, but the Ecuadorian should be back in the XI against Wolves, anchoring the midfield alongside Enzo Fernandez.
Estevao will likely retain his place in the XI after scoring in midweek.
The “special” Blues prodigy has now scored three goals in his last five games and could make his first Premier League start since the tail end of September.
He’ll likely be joined by Alejandro Garnacho, who was also on the score sheet in midweek, and Joao Pedro in attack, while Liam Delap leads the line.
