The forward was signed last summer from MLS side Charlotte FC in a deal worth a reported £5.9 million.

He was part of a busy transfer window in which the Rams built a team that is now in contention for a top six finish in the Championship.

It has been an impressive campaign for the club, with it being Eustace’s first full season in charge after taking over in February 2025.

Agyemang has contributed 10 goals and three assists from 35 appearances in the league for Derby, with the team just three points adrift of sixth place Southampton.

The forward will be hoping to make a big impact in the final seven games of the season in order to help the team’s promotion bid.

How Derby County’s CEO signed Patrick Agyemang

It has been reported by Derbyshire Live that CEO Stephen Pearce was key to securing the signing of Agyemang last summer.

It is believed that the club’s prior relationship with Charlotte FC, which was established through the sale of Nathan Byrne to the US outfit in 2022, helped seal the deal.

Derby were concerned that the player’s positive form for the USMNT in the Gold Cup could trigger widespread interest in his services from other teams in Europe, which led to the Rams pushing for his signature.

The signing of Agyemang is seen as the template for how the club want to go about their transfer business, as they look to utilise a mixture of data and the eye test.

It’s understood that the statistical profile of the American was not compelling enough on its own to convince the Championship side to push for his signing, and that going to watch him proved far more convincing.

And that decision could now prove quite lucrative for Derby, who are in competition for a play-off place.

If he can help the team gain promotion, then that will have proven a very worthwhile signing just one year into his contract.

But he is also attracting transfer interest from Leeds United and Crystal Palace, with the Rams reportedly seeking £20 million in order to cash in on him, which would very lucrative in its own right.

Next up for eighth place Derby is a trip to the CBS Arena to take on league leaders Coventry City on 3 April in an 8pm kick-off.

Patrick Agyemang signing has been a masterstroke for Derby

Agyemang was a risky signing as there was no guarantee that he would make a seamless transition to English football.

But he’s enjoyed a very strong first year in the Championship, and there’s no doubt he can still improve from here.

He is still only 25, so he is a couple of years away from his absolute peak, so it’s no surprise that Premier League clubs are eyeing him.

If Derby can have this kind of success with their signings next summer, then they have the potential to build a very strong side that could maintain their promotion ambitions.
