Coventry City are gearing up for a trip to the King Power Stadium this weekend
Coventry City and Leicester City are set to do battle in the 89th rendition of the M69 derby this weekend.
The two bitter rivals are separated by just a single point in the Championship table, with both sides currently enjoying a place in the play-offs.
Coventry won two of their first three league games, which included a 7-1 hammering of Queens Park Rangers to announce their promotion credentials to the rest of the division in dominant fashion.
Two draws since then have somewhat slowed their momentum, but Frank Lampard’s side still sit a healthy sixth in the standings and are yet to taste defeat after five matches.
Leicester City arrived back in the Championship bruised after a miserable relegation from the top-flight, but haven’t let last year’s woes slow them down.
Marti Cifuentes and Co. have won three of their opening five matches, with a defeat against Preston North End the only major blotch on their record thus far.
Despite this, they are fourth in the table and just three points off league leaders Middlesbrough, which is an extremely healthy position for the Foxes to be in after five outings.
There were two tasty contests between these sides during the 2023/24 campaign, with both Coventry and Leicester taking one victory each.
With bragging rights up for grabs, the Sky Blues’ faithful have done their part in helping their side from the terraces at the King Power Stadium on Saturday.
Coventry City announced on September 3 that, almost three weeks before the clash, they had sold out their allocation for the clash against Leicester City.
The Sky Blues supporters clearly recognise that they stand a good chance of repeating last season’s play-off success and want to make sure they do their part to beat out the Foxes.
3,287 supporters are set to cheer on Lampard’s men in what is sure to be a hotly contested derby between the two rivals.
The match will kick off at 12:30 pm and present both sides with a chance to continue their solid starts to the campaign with a bruising derby-day victory.
Coventry supporters will feel confident about taking a result away from the King Power Stadium, as they currently remain undefeated after five Championship games.
However, Lampard and Co. will hope that it is in the form of a victory, not another stalemate.
The Sky Blues have been unable to beat Norwich City and Oxford United in their last two outings, which are arguably games they should be winning if they want to achieve promotion to the Premier League.
Understandably, Coventry may enter the M69 derby with an element of caution but will hope that the opportunity of victory presents itself at the King Power Stadium.
