Sheffield Wednesday have sold out their allocation for their opening-day visit to Leyton Orient

Sheffield Wednesday have snapped up their full allocation for their League One opener away at the 2025 play-off finalists Leyton Orient.

The Owls begin life back in the third tier after three years in the Championship with a newfound optimism under new ownership.

David Storch and his Arise consortium took over ahead of the final day last season against West Brom, and they have been hard at work rebuilding the club off the field and the squad on it to prepare Henrik Pedersen for the trip to Brisbane Road on August 15 and the nine months that are to follow.

While the personnel at the top of the club has changed, new board members have been added, and new players have arrived so far this summer — 12 in all — one thing that has stayed the same at Wednesday is the loyal fanbase.

Owls fans are looking forward to seeing what this new-look side can do back in League One under fresh direction, and they'll be packing out stands up and down the country to watch them do it.

Sheffield Wednesday officially kick off the new campaign on Saturday with their EFL Cup first round tie with Bolton Wanderers at Hillsborough, but their League One opener sees them travel to Leyton Orient, a side they haven't faced since March 2012.

And, per a ticket update on Tuesday morning, 11 days before the trip to Brisbane Road, Henrik Pedersen's side will be backed by a full house in the away end, something which may become commonplace throughout the campaign.

Wednesday were allocated 1,250 tickets for the clash, which have all been snapped up just 24 hours after they went on sale. Per the Sheffield Star, prices for the game were £30 for an adult ticket, £28 for those aged 65 and over and between 18 and 24 and £13 for under-18s.

Owls fans are set to find away tickets hard to come by this season, given the smaller stadiums they are set to visit and the demand to see the new-look side back in League One. If this is anything to go by, it'll be rare to see away allocations unfilled even a week after tickets go on sale.

Understandably, this has been received well, and almost nonchalantly, amongst Sheffield Wednesday fans and journalists alike. Evidently, these kinds of updates are set to become the norm as the campaign goes on.

Wednesday journalist Joe Crann simply tweeted, "shock," in response to the update. An Owls podcast added, "The first of many. Amazing support as always🙌🏻."

There were many "water is wet" responses, indicating it to be almost a given that a London away day would be sold out within a day.

And one Wednesday fan credited the fanbase for not being angry about the ticket prices, a sly dig at Bradford City, perhaps, after they vented their frustration at the Owls' ticket prices for their trip to Hillsborough on August 20.

"Something I’m never surprised at… Outstanding support AGAIN. Didn't even kick off about away ticket prices too…" they said.

There have been some slight red flags in terms of the on-field happenings at Sheffield Wednesday this past week, which Henrik Pedersen's side will want to eliminate immediately in the opening games of the League One campaign.

No one should take pre-season results to heart too much, but two games against League Two opposition in Accrington Stanley and Oldham Athletic, in which Wednesday failed to score and lost the latter 4-0, with what many perceive to be first-team starters in the line-up, closed out preparations for the Owls this summer.

It hasn't exactly filled fans with optimism, and they'll be hoping that, against Leyton Orient especially, they can get back on track and show why many are tipping them for an immediate Championship return.

Richie Wellens' side won't be pushovers, though. They'll be eager to get back towards where they were two seasons ago following a relegation near-miss in a campaign that the head coach labelled a waste of a year of his career.

With current reigning Young Player of the Year, Player of the Year and Golden Boot winner Dom Ballard still amongst their ranks, plus several solid additions, Orient will be a difficult side to beat away from home.

A win in front of a packed away end would go a long way to laying down Wednesday's promotion credentials.
