FLW takes a look at Coventry City's wage bill as they look to bring Frank Onyeka to the club.
Coventry City's incredible 2025/26 campaign has gone from strength-to-strength, and while their form took a hit over the festive period, promotion to the Premier League remains the sole aim for Frank Lampard's side.
With the battle at the top getting tighter by the week, it is imperative that the Sky Blues respond to their rivals this January with new additions to help stave off the threat of those chasing them for the Championship title.
Coventry are one of several clubs in the second tier who are looking into a deal for Frank Onyeka, as Lampard looks to add to his midfield. The Brentford midfielder is set to leave the Bees this month either on loan or a permanent deal, and he would be an excellent acquisition for the West Midlands outfit.
However, signing a player with Premier League experience does come at a cost, and Football League World has taken a look at the 28-year-old's estimated weekly wage and how it compares to the rest of the squad at the CBS Arena.
According to Capology, Onyeka earns an estimated £40k-a-week wage at Brentford, signing his most recent contract with the West London club in 2023. He put pen-to-paper on a four-year deal at the GTech Community Stadium, with an option for an extra 12 months on top.

Nevertheless, he is unlikely to see that contract out and Coventry will be keen to entice him to CV6 before the February 2 deadline. However, the Nigeria international would become the club's highest earner on arrival.
The Sky Blues currently spend an estimated £249k-a-week on wages, with Matt Grimes, Luke Woolfenden and Ellis Simms the top earners at the club on £25k-a-week, as per Capology's calculations. Yet, with the club aiming for the Premier League, they may have to alter their wage structure.
A loan-to-buy option where they split the payment of Onyeka's wages could be the way for Coventry to ensure that they do not break their current wage bill plan, but with several clubs chasing the midfielder, Brentford may choose a permanent exit over a loan.
At 28, the former Midtjylland ace has played 75 times in the Premier League for Brentford since joining the Bees from the Norwegian giants in 2021.
He spent last season on loan in the Bundesliga with Augsburg, playing 34 times in all competitions as the Fuggerstädter finished 11th.

Once again, in 2025/26, his services have not been as required by Brentford, and he has played just four times in the Premier League. His departure looks all but certain, and Coventry know that they offer arguably the greatest chance of bringing Onyeka top flight football next season.
Nevertheless, if Capology's estimates for his weekly wage come close to how much Brentford are paying the Nigerian ace, then the Sky Blues will have to decide whether he is worth the fee.
