The former Blades winger started his senior career in the Championship, and he could be set to cash in should he end up leaving Everton this summer.

Everton's Iliman Ndiaye could be set for a big money move to Manchester City, but he started his career at Sheffield United and we take a look at much he was earning at Bramall Lane.

Of all the players heading to North America for the 2026 World Cup finals, Senegal's Iliman Ndiaye may be one of those with the most on his mind.

The 39-times-capped, 26-year-old midfielder had an excellent season in the Premier League with Everton, and even though his team finished the season in a slightly lacklustre 13th place in the table, this particular player has caught the eye of bigger clubs.

But Ndiaye's career started from somewhat more humble origins than the bright lights of the richest league in the world. Ndiaye started out in the academy at non-league Boreham Wood, and the first club to spot his potential were Sheffield United, who signed him in August 2019, when he was just 19-years-old.

Iliman Ndiaye's first wage at Sheffield United was a reported £520-a-week

Iliman Ndiaye's arrival at Bramall Lane came at the end of the summer after Sheffield United had secured promotion back to the Premier League, but as a very young player his wage was at the more modest end of the spectrum.

Salary Sport estimate that he was initially on just £520-a-week for the first two seasons of what turned out to be a four-year stay at Bramall Lane, though this increased to £4,100-a-week after two years. By this time, United had been relegated back to the Championship.

He stayed with the club until the summer of 2023, when they sold him to Marseille for a fee reported to be £20 million. But his stay in the south of France was relatively brief. He was at Marseille for just one season, scoring three goals in thirty appearances, before returning to England by signing for Everton.

Ndiaye's career has been on an upward trajectory since leaving Boreham Wood for Sheffield United in 2019

Even that original figure of £520-a-week that Iliman Ndiaye was on at Sheffield United was more than double his previous income at Boreham Wood, and is a reflection on his age and how unproven he was at that time.

Ndiaye had a spell on loan at non-league Hyde United in his first season at Sheffield United, and he ended up only making one brief Premier League appearance for the Blades, getting on the pitch for the last 11 minutes of a 5-0 reversal at Leicester City in March 2021.

But he shone over his last two seasons with the club, running up 76 Championship appearances and scoring 21 goals before leaving for Marseille in 2023.

Since then, Ndiaye's income has hit stellar levels. Salary Sport estimates that his wage jumped from £4,100-a-week to £27,000 a week at Marseille, and that there have been two further big jumps up since then. Returning to England with Everton bumped his salary up to £46,000-a-week in his first season on Merseyside and £56,000-a-week last season.

Such was Ndiaye's quality for Everton over the course of 2025-26 that the winger could be on his way. It's been rumoured that Manchester City are interested in signing him, and interest in this player isn't limited to the sky blue half of Manchester either, with the Mirror having reported that Manchester United might want to take him to Old Trafford as well.

A move to either Manchester City or Manchester United would surely increase Ndiaye's still further, leaving him potentially earning dozens of times what he made when he made his Premier League debut for the Blades, five years ago. It's a lot to be playing on a player's mind, with a World Cup finals due to start in just a few days' time.
