According to the Daily Mail, the Tractor Boys are considering a loan offer for Newcastle United’s Lewis Miley.

It has been claimed that Bournemouth duo Philip Billing and Lewis Cook are also on their radar, with Kieran McKenna looking to bolster his side before 1 September.

Ipswich have drawn their opening two games of the new season, and will have their sights set on improving that form in order to push for promotion back to the top flight.

Here we use estimated figures from Capology to see what the cost of a loan deal for one of these three players could be on the club’s wage bill…

Lewis Miley’s Newcastle United wages

Miley has come through the academy system at Newcastle, and has become a bit-part player in Eddie Howe’s first-team squad.

The midfielder featured 14 times in the Premier League last season, earning one start, with the club coming fifth in the table.

The 19-year-old came on from the bench in the Magpies’ opening fixture of the new campaign, indicating he may yet have a role in Howe’s plans for the upcoming year.

But if Ipswich could secure a loan deal for the teenager, then covering the cost of his current wages shouldn’t be a major problem.

Miley is currently earning £5,000 per week from the Premier League side, making him one of the lowest paid players in the senior team.

Only other youngsters like Alex Murphy and Joe White are paid less by the Tyneside outfit at the moment, and a £5,000-a-week deal should be quite affordable for the Championship club.

So the cost of a potential move should not pose a major stumbling block to completing any temporary deal with Newcastle before the 1 September deadline.

However, there could still be concerns over whether the Premier League side would be willing to let go of someone that is part of Howe’s plans for the immediate future.

Lewis Cook and Philip Billing’s Bournemouth wages

In that event, Ipswich will need to have alternative midfield options and that’s where interest in Billing and Cook becomes important.

The former was an unused substitute in Andoni Iraola’s squad for their opening day defeat to Liverpool at Anfield, while the latter wasn’t on the team sheet at all due to injury.

Billing only managed 10 league appearances last season before being loaned out to Napoli in January, but Cook was a regular part of the squad, featuring on 36 occasions in the top flight.

While it remains to be seen whether either player will be available this summer, it is clear that Ipswich would have a far greater concern over the Bournemouth pair’s wages than with Miley.

Cook is currently receiving £60,000 per week from the Cherries, while Billing earns £45,000-a-week.

Meanwhile, the best paid player in McKenna’s first team squad is Arijanet Muric, with the goalkeeper on a deal worth £35,000 per week.

If Ipswich will be expected to cover either Cook or Billing’s entire wages, then that could prove a stumbling block to a move unless the Suffolk outfit are willing to make them the highest paid player at Portman Road this season.
