The highly-rated defender moved across the West Midlands this summer - but what is he earning at the CBS Arena?

The summer transfer window was certainly intriguing as far as Coventry City were concerned, as the Sky Blues look to build on last season's finish inside the Championship play-off places.

Since his appointment at the CBS Arena, Frank Lampard has largely worked wonders, taking a squad which he found inside the second tier's bottom half last November to the most agonising of semi-final defeats at the hands of eventual Wembley winners, Sunderland.

As a result, there is an ever-growing sense of belief and confidence in this part of the West Midlands that the Sky Blues can eventually return to the Premier League sooner rather than later, with the club rarely threatening to put an end to their exile that will stretch to 25 years should promotion not be achieved this season.

Lampard has plenty of high-profile names or exceptional young talents at his disposal in CV6, although City's start to the current campaign has become solid, if not spectacular, in recent weeks, with his side not fully able to back up a 7-1 mauling of Queens Park Rangers on August 23rd.

Despite having some of the division's best players among their ranks, sections of the Sky Blues support were somewhat underwhelmed and confused by the transfer strategy adopted by Lampard and Doug King, with all incomings showcasing a strong focus on shoring up the side's rearguard.

One of five signings made across the summer was that of Kaine Kesler-Hayden, who joined from local rivals Aston Villa for a reported £3.5m.

With that being said, FLW has looked at how much more money the full-back is earning following the first permanent transfer of his career.

Kesler-Hayden was part of an extremely talented age group at Villa Park, which saw him make his senior debut against Liverpool in January 2021 as COVID-19 swept through the majority of Dean Smith's senior squad at the time, before captaining the club's Under-18's side to the FA Youth Cup just months later.

The right-sided performer then enjoyed four loan spells away from the B6 outfit at Swindon Town, MK Dons, Huddersfield Town, Plymouth Argyle and Preston North End - of which all the latter three came at Championship level, with Kesler-Hayden leaving a strong impression on those at the Accu Stadium, Home Park and most recently, Deepdale, in the process.

Making just five senior appearances for Villa though, it was unsurprising that the 22-year-old was rather low down on the club's wage bill under Smith, Steven Gerrard and Unai Emery.

According to Capology - a site which ESTIMATES the earnings of players and specific contract details - Kesler-Hayden's highest wage for the current UEFA Europa League outfit was just £3,000 per week last season, with it being claimed that he also earned more on loan with Preston.

As previously mentioned, Kesler-Hayden was one of five transfers made by Lampard that boosted the Sky Blues' goalkeepers union or defensive department, as he was joined by Carl Rushworth, Miguel Angel Brau and Luke Woolfenden.

The England Under-20 international's reputation at this level skyrocketed on loan at Preston last season as he won three of the Lilywhites' end of season awards, and that has been reflected in a significant wage hike following his short move across the M6.

According to Capology, Kesler-Hayden now collects a weekly wage of £20,000 per week, which equates to a full season total of £1,040,000.

Despite his recent transfer, the defender has immediately become one of the club's highest earners, with it being ESTIMATED that only Woolfenden, Matt Grimes, Ellis Simms and Haji Wright have a greater wage of £25,000 per week.

It will also surprise some that Kesler-Hayden is said to earn £17,000 more than Milan van Ewijk, who kept the new signing out of Lampard's starting lineup prior to his recent ankle injury against Norwich City, in what was just his second league appearance for the club.
