Football League World compares the shirt prices of the Black Country rivals ahead of the new season

The 2026/27 Championship campaign is less than a month away, and fans are relishing all the derbies that will be renewed in the second tier between now and May.

One of the tastier rivalries second-tier fans will be treated to will be Wolves and West Brom, who meet for the first time in league action in over five years.

Given the trajectories of both sides over the past couple of decades, the two Black Country rivals have missed each other massively.

This will be just the third time in the past 19 seasons that the two are in the same division, and the first time they'll meet in Championship action since the 2007/08 term.

If their FA Cup meeting back in January 2024 is anything to go by, in which the game was suspended for over half an hour due to crowd trouble, then we'll be in for some fierce matchups both on and off the field.

The two sides don't meet until September 20 at Molineux, and before then, both sets of fanbases will be looking to get a one-up on their rivals in any way possible.

In a way, rivalries online are even more intense than they are on the pitch, as fans look to compare pretty much everything if it means they can poke fun at the opposition or use it to paint themselves in a better light.

One of those comes in the form of shirt prices. Simply, some fans will decide that if their shirt is cheaper, they are automatically better.

Wolves' home shirt for their Championship return has been on the shelves for over a month now, as the preparation for their 150th anniversary started quite early. Their kit includes the city's coat of arms as their badge and a shade of gold voted on by fans.

There are plenty of options for which style of shirt Wolves fans can buy. The cheapest option, a short-sleeved regular shirt, costs £60, while a long-sleeved shirt costs £70 and a pro shirt, which is a replica of what the players wear, costs £80.

Meanwhile, West Brom released their home shirt for the 2026/27 campaign in mid-July, following the traditional navy blue and white striped pattern.

On their website, there are two options: a short-sleeved and a long-sleeved. The short-sleeved shirt is priced at £59.99, a penny less than Wolves, while a long-sleeved shirt costs £64.99, an increase of £5, rather than £10, which is what the Old Gold are charging.

Technically, West Brom have the cheaper home shirt than their rivals, albeit the difference is nominal. Their long-sleeved shirt is less expensive, though, so an early win could come from that.

Ultimately, the only wins that matter this season will come on the field, and the Baggies have had the upper hand in their league meetings over the past 30 years or so.

Wolves came out 2-0 victors in their most recent clash in the FA Cup, but before then, West Brom had won nine of the previous 14 meetings between the two, including both legs of the 2006/07 Championship play-off semi-finals.

Wolves will likely come into the game at Molineux in late September as favourites, given their status as a recently relegated Premier League side, but the Baggies will also be hoping to push for promotion in James Morrison's first full season in charge after a solid end to last year.

Either way, form and expectation go out the window in these fierce derby matchups, and even if they'll be slight underdogs, West Brom will hope to have the edge on the field, as they have done in their shirt prices.
