Since forming in 2018, the Manchester City Official Supporters Club in Edinburgh has quietly made a remarkable impact, raising nearly £15,000 for the Bethany Christian Trust, a charity supporting people experiencing homelessness.
Their donations fund Bethany’s Buy a Bed initiative, which provides a night’s shelter, a hot meal, and access to support services for just £21.
By the end of this year, the branch’s efforts will have paid for the equivalent of a bed for two years.
At a recent Q&A event with former City captain Andy Morrison, the club raised £1.5k through a virtual Raceday.
“Andy was a great guest—very articulate and funny. He had the members captivated,” said Branch Chair Dave.
“We’ll wait until the end of the year to donate the money, so it gets matched pound for pound. That makes it £3,000.”
This isn’t a one-off. Over a short few years, the club has donated nearly £15k to Bethany's Buy a Bed, and every year, members choose a charity at their AGM to support.
The events themselves often serve a dual purpose, raising funds while giving back to members.
“We cover the costs ourselves. That’s where it’s hard for clubs like ours—getting guests up here means travel, hotels, and making sure they’re looked after. But Joe Corrigan and Paul Lake had only high praise.”
Dave is clearly proud of what the club has achieved. “I would like to think that our club is giving Manchester City a good name both within Edinburgh and on social media. I post on my own page, and it reaches people across the UK and abroad.”
With every event, every raffle, and every pound raised, this supporters club is proving that football can go far beyond the pitch—and change lives in the process.
