The Saints lost again midweek, suffering a 3-1 loss away to Bristol City on Tuesday night to leave them 18th in the Championship table.

Anis Mehmeti’s 33rd minute strike levelled the game after Adam Armstrong had just put the Hampshire outfit ahead on the half hour mark.

A second half brace from Scott Twine sealed all three points for the hosts, condemning Southampton to their third defeat of the campaign.

Still’s side now have more losses than wins in the Championship this season, with pressure beginning to build on his position as manager after only being appointed in the summer.

Charles has backed Still as manager, claiming the players have to perform better on the pitch in order to turn around their form.

He believes that the side were coached to winning performances in both of their last two games, even though they were only able to bring home one point from six, and that better finishing would’ve gotten them those results.

"Yes, honestly, I think the manager's been so good,” said Charles, via the Daily Echo.

"He's coached a win at the weekend, he's coached a win today (Tuesday), but we've just not been able to put it onto the pitch.

"We haven't scored our goals and kept it out of our net.

“So in my opinion, that's nothing to do with the manager, it's us players on the pitch."

When asked if the squad are still behind Still, Charles responded: "Yeah, definitely.

"Everyone beats everyone in the Championship.

“It's a crazy league, so we just need to go away to Blackburn and win that game, and then hopefully we can put a run together."

Southampton have won just twice in the Championship so far this season, leaving them 18th in the table after 11 fixtures.

They have won just one of their last 10 games, which was a 2-1 victory over Sheffield United on 30 September.

Their only other win came in a 2-1 display at home against Wrexham on the opening day of the campaign.

Next up for the Saints is a trip to Ewood Park to face Blackburn Rovers on 25 October in a 3pm kick-off, where they will be hoping to turn around their form and ease the growing pressure on Still’s position as manager.

Southampton have to stick with Will Still

It would be a very bad look for Southampton to change manager again already, having gone through Russell Martin and Ivan Juric in the last year or so as well.

Still has a great reputation from his time in France, and he needs to be afforded patience in turning things around now at St. Mary’s.

The Saints are struggling to put away good chances, but the encouraging thing is that they are creating plenty of chances to win games.

If they stay the course, then there’s no doubt that results will come, so it would be far too early for the club to give up on the manager.
