FLW look into the EFL Championship form table since Vitor Matos arrived at Swansea City in November...
In November, Alan Sheehan was sacked as Swansea City's head coach after 32 games in charge. Thirteen days later, Vitor Matos was appointed as his successor on a three-and-a-half-year contract from Maritimo.
In that time, Swansea City have managed to pull themselves away from relegation trouble, with Sheehan losing six of the opening 15 league games of 2025/26. He won just four times in that spell, too.
After attempting to bring in Kim Hellberg, only for him to snub Swansea in favour of Middlesbrough, Matos was who they turned to next. It was a costly period for the ownership group, but things are on track again now.
Swanea have pulled well away from the relegation picture and are now looking up. Given the league has been one which has seen the middle third all beating each other more than usual, it only takes one side to go on a consistent run and fly up numerous places.
The Swans are just six points off the play-off places, albeit some of the sides above them have games in hand. However, it could make for an interesting final 14 games for the 16th-placed side.

Just how much have they improved since then? We have taken a look at the table since Matos was reappointed. His first game in charge began just after an away derby defeat to Bristol City 3-0.
Evidently, the improvements were not instantaneous, with Matos losing the first two league games, and only winning two of his first five in the dugout. However, since the busy Christmas schedule, they have only lost four of the last 11 in the league and there has been much improvement.
The table above highlights that Swansea have been performing as a near-play-off level side, with Swansea sitting eighth since Matos' arrival in November. They were 19th and just two above the drop zone when he first took charge.
However, it could have been much better, especially after disappointing results against Hull City and Derby County recently, albeit three of the last four games came away from home and they have had more success at home, with six of the eight wins coming in South Wales.

Including a draw and penalty defeat to West Bromwich Albion, Matos has had eight wins and two draws in his 17 games in charge. They are now entering a crucial period of their season, given that eight of the next nine league games are against sides above them.
It means their run-in has numerous sides in the bottom eight, but winning points against sides around them is their only hope of potentially sneaking into the play-offs. It could be argued, in that sense, that their destiny is in their own hands.
The 2025/26 season is Swansea's eighth in succession at this level, having never finished lower than 15th in that time and with two play-off campaigns in the last seven years before now as well.
It appears Matos and co. are in for a similar year, given their current trajectory. Swansea are 10 clear of relegation but maintaining the form of a top eight side is likely to see them finish somewhere around the top half of the division.
A full campaign under Matos' stewardship, however, could finally see the Swans kick on towards play-off contention, with the Welsh side having not made the top-six since 2021.
