The Gunners, facing their penultimate pre-Christmas fixture, will hope to improve somewhat after coming close to gifting Rob Edwards’ Wolves their third point of the season last time out.

After a rare week off, though, they should be rejuvenated and up for the challenge as they visit Merseyside.

Everton seemed to have Arsenal’s number last season - to a certain extent. They took two points from their two meetings with the Gunners, holding them goalless at the Emirates and scoring a goal apiece at Goodison.

To improve on that will be a big ask. The Gunners currently sit atop the Premier League table, but pending the outcome of Man City’s meeting with West Ham, they could be knocked off their perch before kick-off.

Whether they can reclaim first place, however, remains to be seen.
