2014 champions take on World Cup history-makers first
Germany open their World Cup campaign against Curacao today, looking to put behind their nightmare tournament last time out.
Die Mannschaft were sent packing from Qatar in the group stages, as they were denied a place in the knockout rounds in the most dramatic of fashions on the third and final matchday.
The Germans, overseen by Hansi Flick, beat Costa Rica 4-2 but bowed out on goal difference after Japan stunned Spain to top Group E in the Middle East.
This time, Julian Nagelsmann will be hoping to avoid a repeat, and he will also be wanting to go further than the quarter-finals, when his side were defeated 2-1 by eventual winners Spain on home soil.
They face a Curacao side making their debut on the global stage. They are managed by former Sunderland boss Dick Advocaat, while they are captained by the ex-Aston Villa midfielder Leandro Bacuna.
After their 0-0 draw with Jamaica back in November last year, they became the smallest nation by both population and area to ever qualify for a World Cup.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on ITV1, with coverage starting at 5pm BST.
Live stream: UK viewers can also catch the contest live online via ITVX app or the ITV website.
