City have to win if they want to reach the last 16 automatically
Manchester City go into their final Champions League group game knowing that they have to win.
Pep Guardiola’s side take on Galatasaray at the Etihad Stadium on Wednesday, safe in the knowledge that it is victory or nothing in their bid to reach the Champions League last 16 automatically.
City are currently 11th in the Champions League table, three points off the top eight.
The top eight sides progress through to the knockout stages without a play-off round, while those from 9th through to 24th must play one more tie to earn their place in the last 16.
Guardiola’s men were stunned in the Arctic Circle last time out, beaten 3-1 by a spirited Bodo/Glimt side in a result that no-one saw coming.
They responded well with a 2-0 victory over Wolves at the weekend to pile the pressure back on Arsenal in the Premier League title race.
Erling Haaland, Jeremy Doku and Phil Foden were all rested against the Premier League’s bottom side, with Guardiola explaining that Haaland was “exhausted” from City’s recent games and that his minutes were being managed.
TV channel: In the UK, the game will be televised live on TNT Sports 6, with coverage starting at 6.30pm ahead of an 8pm kick-off.
Live stream: TNT Sports subscribers can also catch the contest live online via the Discovery+ app and website.
