New boss will take charge of first game in Sydney
Chelsea take on the Western Sydney Wanderers in the first game of their pre-season tour of Australia and New Zealand today.
Xabi Alonso is preparing for his first season at the helm, and one of his first signings as Blues boss, Marco Palestra, the wing-back who arrived from Atalanta, could be on show when the west Londoners visit the Accor Stadium.
The two sides will contest for the Super Sydney Cup, as Chelsea take on the club that finished bottom of the Australian A-League last term.
As for the Premier League outfit, they will be without their World Cup stars, who have been afforded a three-week break following the conclusion of this summer’s tournment.

Among those is Enzo Fernandez, who saw red in the World Cup final for Argentina, as the holders were defeated 1-0 by Spain.
Morgan Rogers, the £117million arrival from Aston Villa, is another that won’t be playing in Australasia, but he will be expected to join up with his new team-mates, including the man who he shares his ‘ice cold’ celebration with, Cole Palmer.
TV channel and live stream: In the UK, the game will be televised live on CFC+, Chelsea’s in-house video streaming service.
All of the club’s pre-season fixtures will be broadcast via CFC+, which requires a membership. An annual subscription costs £15, while pay-per-view passes worth £9.99 are also available for each match.
