Huddersfield Town and Blackpool are both in talks to sign out of contract Millwall defender Murray Wallace.
Huddersfield Town and Blackpool are set to battle it out for for the services of Millwall defender Murray Wallace, who will depart The Den at the end of his contract.
Reports over the last week emerged that newly-promoted Bradford City were leading the race for the defender's signature ahead of the Seasiders,
However, journalist Alan Nixon revealed via his Patreon page on Sunday morning that the Bantams have pulled out of the race to sign Wallace, leaving his former club Huddersfield and Blackpool to duke it out to sign him.
The 32-year-old has been a stalwart for Millwall over his eight seasons with the club, racking up well over 200 appearances and helping the Lions establish themselves as a strong Championship club once again.
Now, Wallace will be in the hunt for a new club next season, after it was announced that his contract at The Den wouldn't be renewed. Early reports suggested Bradford led the race for his services, but the latest from Nixon has revealed that has changed.
The newly-promoted side have reportedly pulled out of the race to sign the Scot, leaving Huddersfield and Blackpool in a transfer battle to try and bring the experienced defender to their respective clubs.
Wallace played for the Terriers between 2012 and 2016 before embarking on a new chapter at Scunthorpe United, which earned him his £500,000 move to Millwall in 2018.
The two clubs reportedly fighting to sign Wallace have both been busy in the transfer market already, particularly when it comes to strengthening their defensive units ahead of the new season.
Huddersfield have already added Joe Low from Wycombe Wanderers and Sean Roughan from Lincoln City, whilst Blackpool have swooped for Michael Ihiekwe of Sheffield Wednesday, and Stockport County's Fraser Horsfall.
Competition at both clubs will be fierce in the defensive units, as both sides are looking to improve upon last season's rather underwhelming finishes.
However, as mentioned, Murray has already spent four years at the John Smith's Stadium, and this could see him potentially keen to start a fresh chapter elsewhere, rather than joining up with his former employers again.
Either way, the Scot has two strong options on the table who will likely be fighting at the sharp end of League One next season, and his experience could prove to be important for either side in their respective campaigns.
