Valencia trained on Monday with the returns of Hugo Duro and Unai Núñez to the group, though neither is fully fit for Tuesday’s match against Real Mallorca. According to Superdeporte, the centre-back is a confirmed absentee and the striker is pushing to be named in the squad.

That leaves César Tárrega as the only fit centre-half, with Carlos Corberán unable to call on his other options in the middle.

Unai Núñez has only just come through a right hamstring issue sustained against RC Celta at Mestalla, an injury that kept him out at Elche. Eray Cömert suffered an abdominal muscle problem in the Elche match and is ruled out, as are the injured Copete and Mouctar Diakhaby.

The coach also lacks a favoured academy centre-back in the injured Alejandro Panach. Midfielder Pepelu has been working in central defence in recent days alongside youngster Rubo Iranzo and is the most dependable alternative, as seen in the 0-1 win at Getafe this season.

Unai will not be ready. Duro will try to make it despite lingering hamstring discomfort and could be kept in reserve for the second half, with everything pointing to Umar Sadiq starting.
