Leeds United’s £34million capture of centre-back Tarik Muharemovic has been praised by Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic, who says the 23-year-old fits Daniel Farke’s physically robust set-up.

“He's a very good player,” said Hull City boss Sergej Jakirovic. “He had a very good season in Sassuolo. There was a lot of interest about him from a lot of big names.” He was speaking to The Yorkshire Post.

“He's a left-footed centre-back, a national team player, and Bosnia has played a good World Cup. It will be a good profile for Leeds. He grew up in Austria so he speaks German and they [Leeds] have coaches from Germany, so I think he will adapt very well.”

Leeds confirmed the defender’s move last week, handing him a five-year deal. The £34million fee is the club’s second highest and follows Pascal Struijk’s departure.

Supporters may have to wait to see him play, with his post-World Cup break continuing after a visit to Elland Road. He is likely to join pre-season midway through the US tour.

Jakirovic must also wait to face his compatriot, with Leeds not at the MKM Stadium until December 30. The return at Elland Road is on March 3.

The defender is credited by club and country for mentality and leadership. He has vowed to give everything, hates losing, will contest every ball with head or feet, and is eager to start the season in front of sold-out crowds.
