The Tigers are reportedly considering making a change in the first-team boss.

Former West Bromwich Albion boss Tony Mowbray has emerged as a potential candidate to replace Ruben Selles at Hull City.

It was revealed by BBC Humberside's Mike White, following the confirmation that the Lions had survived relegation this season, that City are considering removing the ex-Reading boss from his position at the head of the first-team.

Hull were two points from safety when the Spaniard was officially brought over to the MKM Stadium from the Select Car Leasing Stadium in December. Off the back of the disastrous appointment that was Tim Walter, Selles helped to steady the ship and eventually guided them to safety, but this may not be enough to keep his job.

Tony Mowbray considered as potential Ruben Selles replacement option at Hull

So who are the club's hierarchy looking at as their prospective next first-team boss? White has shed more light on the situation, stating that Mowbray is on the board to take the reins at Hull should they part with Selles.

The 61-year-old returned to football management in January, becoming Carlos Corberan's successor at West Brom after taking a long time away from the sport to battle cancer. Mowbray was unable to steer the Baggies to the play-off berth that they hoped for and was sacked with a couple of games to go in the campaign.

He has had some recent success in the Championship to add to the wealth of experience that he can offer any club who should appoint him next. A very inexperienced Sunderland side finished in the top six in the club's first season back in the second tier thanks to Mowbray's brilliance as their boss.

Hull's new Head of Recruitment, Martin Hodge, is said to be close to Mowbray, as per White, which may aid his chances of landing the job if it becomes available last summer.

Hull should learn from their previous managerial sacking mistakes

It was only this time last year that the Tigers narrowly missed out on the play-offs with a young, promising man at the helm of the first-team - Liam Rosenior. Instead of being allowed to continue in the job, he was sacked and eventually replaced with Walter.

Now Rosenior is the boss of French side RC Strasbourg, who are challenging for a spot in next season's Champions League and haven't lost a Ligue 1 contest since the start of February.

You could so easily see Hull repeating that same mistake this summer, pulling the trigger on a potentially brilliant boss all for it to completely backfire on them.
