Chelsea beat Cardiff 3-1 today, adding to the win over Everton at the weekend.
But the main storyline at the club remains the tensions between Enzo Maresca and his bosses. After his explosive comments at the weekend, there’s been a lot of speculation about what’s going on behind the scenes.
At the end of today’s presser he denied that he had spoken to any of the club’s large roster of sporting directors.
“No, as I said yesterday, the day after Everton, I started to prepare Cardiff, focus on Cardiff. Now I just said, on the bus I will watch Newcastle, and I didn’t speak with one of them.”

It’s not great – shouldn’t the sporting directors be speaking to the managers daily, especially after games? His comments to Sky Sports after full time were also pretty guarded – while he was careful not to inflame things further, he also didn’t come out and say everything’s ok.
The good news was that he made sure that he kept the fans onside:
“It was a great moment, I appreciate it, I’m always thankful. I said many times in many press conferences, the support has always been there, knowing that any supporters in the world, when you don’t win, they are not happy. So in some moments that we didn’t win games, they have been not happy, but it’s normal. But overall, the fans have always been there.”
Enzo Maresca didn’t have Estevao Willian in his team tonight, but according to the coach it was because the winger has a muscle injury. We won’t see him at the weekend either.
Maresca went to celebrate with the fans at full time and was well received by them. That’s another crucial ingredient in the fascinating soap opera developing behind the scenes at Stamford Bridge.
