Brazilian striker Matheus Cunha has expressed his desire to leave Wolverhampton Wanderers this summer, putting Arsenal and Manchester United on red alert.

Cunha has admitted he’s ready to take the next step in his career and could be the subject of a bidding war at the end of the season (h/t the Guardian).

The 25-year-old has been a standout performer for Wolves this season, bagging 15 goals and four assists in 29 appearances across all competitions.

He has been central to Wolves’ battle against relegation, almost singlehandedly keeping them from falling into the abyss with 13 goals and four assists in 26 Premier League games.

Cunha’s performances for a relegation-battling team have strengthened his reputation as one of the best strikers in the Premier League.

He has attracted the attention of Arsenal and United, who are in the market for a striker this summer.

His latest comments about his future pave the way for both clubs to go head-to-head for his signature.

Cunha recently signed a new four-and-a-half-year contract with Wolves, which is supposed to keep him at the club until 2029.

However, this was merely a business move designed to protect his transfer value.

Cunha is valued at £46 million on Transfermarkt, but there’s a £62.5m release clause in his contract that should ease the process of luring him away from Wolves this summer.

The Brazil international was a highly sought-after player in the January transfer window, with Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest all making inquiries.

However, Cunha chose to stay at Molineux, determined to help Wolves maintain their Premier League status.

With the club now sitting nine points above the drop zone, he feels the time is right to move on.

“I had a lot of offers, but I wouldn’t feel well if I had done it,” he said.

“Some things you can’t control, but I couldn’t leave the club in the middle of the season, in a difficult situation, in the relegation zone.

“Now, we’re close to achieving our goal [of staying up].

“But I’ve made it clear that I need to take the next step. I want to fight for titles, for big things. I have potential.”
