Manchester City winger Jeremy Doku has aimed a sly dig towards Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold following their one-versus-one battle on Sunday afternoon.

The Belgium forward was the star of the show for City on the field last weekend despite the negative result and the lack of goalscoring output from himself or his teammates in the final third of the pitch.

Following on from a tormenting performance at Anfield earlier in the season, Jeremy Doku revived his battle with Trent Alexander-Arnold at the Etihad Stadium and brought more of the same dominance over the England international.

Across the course of the 90 minutes, the 22-year-old completed 15 dribbles against the Merseyside club and came on top in 16 ground duels, with the majority of those coming up against the Anfield right-back.

And speaking on the contest, Doku has been keen to insist upon the joy he found when coming up against Liverpool’s Trent Alexander-Arnold, but admits that he did not do enough when it came to converting that success into clear chance creation.

“I passed him a lot but it was the final pass. The most important after passing is to create, and I played some good balls in front of goal but we have to score. We have to see what I can do better and what we can do better as a team,” Doku said.

“If I look at the game I don’t think they were much better. Two goals, one set piece, second goal was a long ball – so well done to them. We know their qualities, like to play in behind. They did well and it’s hard to come back against a team that defends well like that.”

The Belgium international forward continued, “We played better against Liverpool than we did away. Of course there is a gap in points, but you can’t say that they ran over us [on Sunday].”

Doku brought his fine form and confidence into Manchester City’s follow-up clash against Tottenham on Wednesday night, once again playing an instrumental role in the Premier League champions’ attacking output.

This time there would be end product from the winger too, as he provided the decisive ball into the path of Erling Haaland inside the contest’s opening 15 minutes for the Norwegian to convert from close range.

Jeremy Doku’s individual showing against Ange Postecoglou’s side, on a night when Manchester City would secure themselves a vital three points through the 0-1 win, was enough to also see him claim the Premier League’s Player of the Match award from the contest.
