Former Premier League footballer Glenn Murray believes the Chelsea project under Todd Boehly is starting to look “quite exciting.”

The Blues missed the chance to temporarily go top of the league after being held to a goalless draw by Everton on Sunday, but they have made a brilliant start to the season.

Chelsea currently sit second, four points behind leaders Liverpool and two ahead of third placed Arsenal, with the Blues certainly exceeding pre-season expectations of them.

Boehly project looking exciting at Chelsea

Since the takeover by Boehly and Clearlake Capital in May 2022 the new ownership have been heavily criticised in the media by pundits and ex-players.

The Blues have spent an absolute fortune on some of the best young talent and have also been through a number of managers, in what was a very difficult first two years.

A lot of mistakes were made, which in fairness shouldn’t be totally unexpected, but they also deserve a lot of credit for drastically reducing the club’s wage bill.

Chelsea’s ownership have come in for heavy criticism since taking over in May 2022.

However, with their fourth permanent manager now in place in Maresca it finally feels like this Chelsea project has lift off, and the Blues have found themselves in the title conversation.

The owners will no doubt be impressed what with that they have seen so far and a lot of people seem to be pulling back on their previous criticism.

Former Brighton striker Murray thinks the project is starting to get going and looks like it could be really exciting.

“I think there’ll be an internal belief that they can push them [Liverpool] all the way,” he said on Match of the Day 2.

“This group are only going to get better and better, and this Todd Boehly project that we maybe sniggered at to begin with, it’s starting to take shape and it’s starting to look quite exciting.”

It’s funny to see now how so many people are changing their minds and starting to be proven wrong on the project, but there’s still a long way to go, although you can clearly see the Blues are on the right path.
