Liverpool centre-back Ibrahima Konaté (26) would like to challenge himself elsewhere and as soon as next year, according to a report this Thursday from Foot Mercato. Konaté joined Liverpool in 2021 from RB Leipzig over a five-year contract. The Paris FC youth graduate rose to prominence as one of the best centre-backs in Europe, becoming a regular starter for Didier Deschamps’ France national team. Contract talks have taken place, but no breakthrough is in sight.
The outlet understands that Konaté is set on running his contract down and leaving Liverpool next summer. A handful of major European clubs are monitoring Konaté’s situation, including FC Barcelona, PSG and Real Madrid. Foot Mercato understands that Konaté’s preference would be to join Los Merengues where he would reunite with former Liverpool right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold (26), who also ran his contract down to join the Spanish capital.
