Birmingham City will be beginning plans for the summer transfer window after gaining promotion back to the Championship at the first attempt.

Smashing the record League One points tally and resoundingly lifting the third-tier title, the West Midlands outfit are expected to be significantly backed financially by Tom Wagner as they search for a return to the Premier League as quickly as possible, but Blues will first have to build a squad that can compete in such a relentless 46-game campaign.

Birmingham will be searching within their squad for who can and can’t cut it in the Championship, with a host of incomings and outgoings expected as the club looks to set out it’s stall this season in the second tier.

One player who could be leaving the club soon is central defender Dion Sanderson, with the central defender linked to reunite with John Eustace at Derby County for £1 million.

Seemingly out of favour at Blues under Chris Davies, FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit has issued his thoughts on the next steps Birmingham should take.

Speaking to Football League World, FLW’s Birmingham City fan pundit Jason Moore launched a scathing attack on Dion Sanderson’s spell under Chris Davies, admitting the defender shouldn’t be part of the Tom Wagner project moving forward.

Moore said: “If Dion Sanderson needed a lift to Derby, I’ll drive him there myself. That’s how badly we need to get rid of him.

“He’s been a good servant when we originally signed him for £2 million, he was fine, worked really hard under John Eustace, so the fact we’re potentially going to get a £1 million fee for him is brilliant business.

“It just works for all parties. He’s not wanted by Chris Davies, he’s fallen out of love with the fans, the fans don’t want him there, and he’s going to go somewhere pretty close in Derby to work under John Eustace, who he’s openly said he loves.

“I think it’s good business for everyone. He’s not good enough to take Blues where we want to go, and I’d drive him there myself if I had to.”

Birmingham City must sign off Dion Sanderson summer sale

Brutal words have been directed towards Dion Sanderson from our Birmingham City fan pundit, but ultimately, they are with good reason, as the central defender only played two games for the club this term before joining Blackburn Rovers on loan.

Sanderson is clearly invested in playing elsewhere, under John Eustace wherever possible, and it’s hardly surprising to see a move to Derby County now surfacing this summer transfer window.

Birmingham are already well-stocked in central defence and will undoubtedly be making further additions to strengthen competition in the ranks, so it appears Sanderson’s days of regularly playing in a Blues shirt are dwindling.

That’s why it makes sense to sanction a move in order to get an unhappy player off the wage bill, and have a full squad of players who are committed to delivering success under the ambitious plans of Tom Wagner.
