Chelsea’s spending on agents in the last two transfer windows was miles clear of anyone else in the Premier League – and they didn’t have much to show for it.

The FA have just released the numbers for the last year’s spending on agents fees. Covering last summer and the January just gone, it shows how much Premier League teams have spent on intermediaries.
Chelsea are miles clear at the top. The Blues have spent more than £65m on agents alone. The next closest is Aston Villa on £38m.
It’s a crazy figure for the Blues to spend, especially when you consider how far ahead of everyone else they are.

Chelsea have always been spending big money with agents – both on the books and off it. The difference is that it used to be worth it. Now we’re spending this cash not to get the best players in the world, but to sign players who haven’t even been able to improve the team much.
Spending £10m on an agent is worth it if you get Michael Ballack on a free transfer. If you get Liam Delap… we’re not so sure.
Chelsea will struggle to hold on to their top players this summer, according to a Sky Sports pundit.
Marc Cucurella’s comments about Chelsea caused a stir this week, and most fans agree with him. But he did get one thing wrong.
